Mayor's Update: Railroad Crossings, Stormwater, Farmers Market & Road Paving

Hello Vine Grove! Here's an update on several projects moving forward around the city: Railroad Crossing Arms The railroad crossing at Crume Road is currently in the works for a railroad arm, and eventually we will see one at Crutcher Road as well. That project is still going through the approval process. The safety factor this brings with it is huge! Crume Road Stormwater Project We also finally received railroad approval to move forward with the stormwater project on Crume Road, so you'll soon see the concrete culverts being installed. Farmers Market Building We gave the old Farmers Market building a fresh coat of paint! It will be ready to use for the upcoming Saturday After 6 Mimosa Festival on August 29th. Road Paving We are also working on road paving quotes and that should happen earlier this year. — Mayor Pam Ogden

Town Hall — Recovery Homes in Our Community

Tomorrow night, we are hosting a Town Hall to address the concerns and questions surrounding recovery homes in our community. I called this meeting because I have seen far too much misinformation and speculation shared, and I believe our residents deserve better than rumors and social media posts. You deserve the facts. We will be joined by Mayor Jeff Gregory and Public Affairs Officer Chris Denham from Elizabethtown, who operate the recovery program there. Their program is the model we have used in developing our approach, and they will be here to explain how it works, what the rules and expectations are, how the homes are managed, and what safeguards are in place. I know there are people who are uncomfortable with recovery homes. I understand that. I am not asking you to agree with everything or to like the idea. I am asking you to come hear the facts, ask questions, and make informed decisions. It is important to understand that these recovery homes are federally protected under fair housing laws, and we are required to follow those protections. As Mayor, I believe my responsibility is to listen to our residents, address concerns openly, and make sure our community has the facts before making judgments. I hope you will join us, come with an open mind, and most importantly, come ready to listen and please be respectful. This will be on Facebook live and recorded for you to watch if you can't join us. Mayor Pam

Mosquito Fogging — Tuesday, July 28 after 9:00 PM EST

‼️ Mosquito fogging is scheduled to take place Tuesday, July 28th after 9:00 PM EST. We understand that many people have questions about the product being used. I spoke directly with the state employee overseeing the application, and he shared that they use a clean, mosquito-specific product that is designed to target mosquitoes. When applied according to directions, it is not intended to harm beneficial insects such as bees, lightning bugs (fireflies), or other pollinators. Our city is fortunate to have beautiful natural features, including our creek, which is an important part of Vine Grove. Over recent years, we have invested more than $6 million in stormwater improvement projects to better manage drainage, reduce flooding, and improve our infrastructure. However, no matter how many improvements we make, we will always have a creek, and with natural waterways comes the reality of mosquito activity, especially during warm, wet seasons like we've experienced this year. This is the first mosquito fogging our community has had in many years, and with the unusually high mosquito population this season, we hope this treatment will help everyone enjoy spending more time outdoors. Fogging will happen only in Vine Grove City Limits.

Teen Night Was a Hit! 🎉

Last night reminded me exactly why we do what we do. Seeing nearly 400 teens laughing, dancing, playing games, enjoying the foam party, and cooling off at the splash pad in a safe, welcoming space filled my heart with joy. Every smile made the hard work worthwhile. These young people were incredible—respectful, kind, excited, and truly grateful to have a place where they could simply enjoy being teenagers. One of my favorite moments was hearing that Officer White jumped in to play football with the kids. That's what Teen Night is all about—building relationships and showing our youth that the people who serve this community genuinely care about them. I'm so grateful to our amazing volunteers who welcomed families, served food, and made sure every teen felt safe and included. Thank you also to our Police Department, Fire Department, and Public Works crews for helping everything run smoothly. And yes...I think our Public Works crew may have enjoyed the surprise foam party just as much as the kids! 😊 To the parents who trusted us with your children, thank you. We never take that trust for granted. If you have ideas to make Teen Night even better next year, I'd love to hear them. And if you took photos, please share them in the comments—I was so busy visiting with everyone that I hardly took any! These moments help shape the future of Vine Grove. Today's teens will become tomorrow's parents, teachers, business owners, first responders, volunteers, community leaders—and maybe even your mayor. Investing in them today helps build a stronger community tomorrow. To everyone who helped bring this event to life—thank you. You gave these kids more than a fun evening. You gave them memories. —Mayor Pam
