Last night, while our babies laughed, danced, played, made new friends, and filled Optimist Park with all the beautiful noise of being young, the sky seemed to be watching over every one of them. The clouds opened into the most breathtaking shades of pink, coral, gold, and fire, almost as though the heavens decided the inaugural Vine Grove Teen Night 2026 deserved its own celebration. Then, as evening settled over the park, the waxing moon appeared above the trees. A waxing moon is a moon of growth, possibility, momentum, and becoming. I cannot think of a more perfect light to shine over these young people. Because that is exactly what they are doing. Growing. Learning. Dreaming. Discovering who they are. Becoming the future parents, teachers, business owners, public servants, volunteers, and leaders of our communities. I felt incredibly blessed to be one of their chaperones last night. I do not have children of my own growing up in this community, but for those few hours, I felt like I had all of these children to watch over, encourage, protect, and cheer on. And parents, you should be so very proud. The young people you sent into our care were respectful, kind, joyful, funny, and beautifully themselves. They were a reflection of the love, guidance, patience, and values you have poured into them. You are nurturing and raising some truly beautiful souls who are already becoming remarkable future adults. For one beautiful night, our community gave them a safe place to simply be young. To laugh too loudly, squeal over friends, dance without worrying who was watching, eat good food, and make the kind of memories they may still talk about years from now. And above them, that magnificent sky and little crescent moon seemed to whisper: You are seen. You are safe. You belong here. Your future is bright. What a beautiful beginning for Vine Grove Teen Night. May this be only the first of many nights when our community gathers around its young people and reminds them just how deeply they matter. 🌙🩷
